Journalism Summer School - (Four weeks August)

Our Summer School is held every August, and is a four week intensive course in journalism. Whether you are an overseas student, or based in the UK, this course is designed to provide the basic knowledge and underlying writing skills required for entry into a career in journalism, and provides an excellent introduction to all the different facets of journalism while at the same time enjoying the sights and culture of London.

Students will be required to have a sound knowledge of English, and will be expected to be able to work on their own as well as in tutor-led groups.

The average age of our students is usually around 22 - 30, although in recent years ages have ranged from 18 to 52.

The topics covered include:

News and newswriting
Reports

2 day QuarkXpress course

You will have the benefit of group discussions and lively question and answer sessions, as well as seminars conducted by our professional team of writers and journalists, and also lectures from outside guest speakers.

As part of this course you will visit local Magistrates and Crown courts, exhibitions, museums or art galleries - and report on what you see.

We are unable to arrange accommodation for students coming from outside London, but will gladly forward information about rooms in local Youth Hostels and the International Students House. Alternatively, there are many local hotels within walking distance of the School (or 2 tube stops) in the Paddington/Bayswater area which offer accommodation at reasonable rates. On request we can supply details of some which our students have found both comfortable and clean in the past!

The Summer School for 2008 begins on Monday 28 July at 10.00 am, and finishes on Friday 22 August at 3.00 pm. Total cost (inclusive of vat) is £1395.00

To apply for a place students must complete an application form and provide the information set out by the Registration requirements.
